John is a brilliant Atlantic and 20th Century Fox Records and CBS Television composer, songwriter, and performer. An acoustic-rock pioneer, John and his partner, Mark Rodney were discovered by legendary co-founder and president of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun (Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, BB King, The Rascals, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.) The duo was one of Ertegun’s favorite acts and he personally produced their albums at Muscle Shoals. Batdorf & Rodney became staples in the soft rock era from 1970-75, playing regularly with Bread, America, Poco, and other major acts of the day.
After the B&R years, John wrote songs covered by America, "England Dan" Seals, Kim Carnes, and others, then began composing for television, creating scores and orchestral cues for Touched By an Angel, Promised Land, and the TV movie, Book Of Days. He rearranged hits from the Rolling Stones catalog for acoustic guitar and vocals, resulting in two spectacular CDs with James Lee Stanley. He sang back-up for Adele at the Oscars and his voice can be heard in the blockbuster movie, Guardians of the Galaxy II, fronting his band 'Silver's' hit, Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang. His voice is as good as ever and he and will rekindle memories for fans of the 70's singer-songwriter era.
